Koei Kuwahara Sensei, Hari is a form of Japanese Meridian Therapy that interprets disease as patterns of deficiency and excess of ki and blood within the meridians. Treatment is performed using tonification and dispersion with needles and moxa to restore balance and support the body’s natural healing processes.

To formulate a diagnosis, Hari utilizes the traditional Five Phase model derived from the classical acupuncture texts, including the Nan Jing, Su Wen, and Ling Shu. Hands-on diagnostic methods are the hallmark of Japanese Meridian Therapy, and pulse diagnosis is used extensively to monitor and evaluate treatment effectiveness.

The heart of Hari lies in the ancient practice of Kototama vibrational medicine, emphasizing mind-body posture, intention, and connection as essential components of both diagnosis and treatment.

Throughout this series, students will learn the foundational concepts of Hari and their clinical applications while developing the palpation skills necessary to perceive and work directly with ki.

Each module builds upon the previous one through progressive development of diagnostic and treatment skills. Students will gain practical experience with pulse diagnosis, abdominal diagnosis, channel palpation, root treatment, branch treatment, moxibustion, extraordinary vessel treatment, and complete Hari treatment strategies.

Most importantly, participants will receive extensive hands-on instruction and meticulous skills development in order to truly “get it into their hands.” While intellectual understanding is necessary, Hari recognizes that the deepest learning comes through embodied experience and direct perception.

As Kuwahara Sensei often reminds us, “The heart of the medicine lies in sesshin” (connection).

Whether you are seeking to deepen your palpation skills, refine your needling technique, or begin a serious study of Japanese Meridian Therapy, this series is designed to provide the clinical foundation, confidence, and hands-on experience necessary to bring Hari into everyday practice.

DATES & CURRICULUM

All classes run from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

Students must attend both days of each module to receive continuing education credit.

MODULE 1
November 7-8, 2026

Instructors: Gretchen Lorenson, AP, DOM & Cameron Bishop, AP, DAOM

Saturday
• Introduction and History of Hari ~ Root and Branch Treatment ~ Kototama ~ Sho Diagnosis ~ Primary Diagnosis ~ Oshide and Sashide ~ Mind-Body Posture

Sunday
• Nan Jing Chapter 69 Point Selection ~ Side Selection ~ Tonification Needling ~ Live Point Location ~ Pulse Feedback

MODULE 2
January 23-24, 2027

Instructors: Gretchen Lorenson, AP, DOM & Cameron Bishop, AP, DAOM

Saturday
• Hara Diagnosis ~ Secondary Diagnosis ~ Ja Ki and Causes of Disease ~ Dispersion Needling

Sunday
• Six Position Pulse Diagnosis ~ Eight Basic Pulse Quality Diagnosis ~ Advanced Pulse Feedback Training

MODULE 3
March 6-7, 2027

Instructors: Gretchen Lorenson, AP, DOM & Cameron Bishop, AP, DAOM

Saturday
• Touch Diagnosis ~ Materials and Methods ~ Branch Treatments ~ Moxa ~ Intradermal Needles ~ Sanshin ~ Enshin and Zanshin Tools

Sunday
• Extraordinary Vessel Treatment ~ Shigo (Clock Method) ~ Miyawaki Style Applications

MODULE 4
April 24-25, 2027

Instructors: Ehrland Truitt, DOM, Gretchen Lorenson, AP, DOM, Cameron Bishop, AP, DAOM

Saturday
• Kigai and Ketsubon Treatment ~ Neck and Inguinal Techniques

Sunday
• Full Treatment Integration ~ Root and Branch Treatment Strategy ~ Supervised Clinical Practice ~ Instructor Feedback

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTORS

This series is taught collaboratively by Gretchen Lorenson, Cameron Bishop and Ehrland Truitt.
